Students can start this program every 8 weeks
Program Details
This program prepares the student for the rapidly expanding field of Medical Coding, and focuses on developing an understanding of the language of medicine and the ability to apply it to professional coding standards. Instruction concentrates on the areas of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology, laboratory medicine, medical finance, and coding. Coders are required to abstract medical documentation from patient's charts and correlate the diagnosis and procedures performed into numerical code numbers. This is done in all healthcare facilities. Alexandria Technical College's Medical Coding Diploma program uses state of the art computer applications like the 3M encoder, and the Athens Academic electronic medical records system, to allow students to have real world hands-on application of medical coding practice.
