Our Online College Experience
What is online learning and how does it work?
- We are so glad you asked! It is a way of learning in which you and your instructor are separated by distance but participate in the learning environment via technology.
- Online learning can be completed according to the student’s schedule. Thus, if you were unable to complete your education because of time or distance constraints, you can now utilize this flexible mode of learning.
- As computer-based instruction, course work and instruction occurs via the Internet. Most classes proceed in a progressive manner where you have one semester to complete your course, similar to an onsite experience.
- As a student, you can expect to be an active learner! You will be provided the course syllabus and course schedule which contain your instructor’s name and email address. You are also provided instructions on how to begin and then online learning takes place through self-initiation and additional research. The assignments are submitted directly to your instructor by you, the student. Throughout the learning process, your instructor is available to guide you and answer your questions.
- As for tests, instructors vary on how you will test. . If your instructor has their tests set up for proctoring, you will need to find a proctor. A proctor is a person in your community who is willing to administer course tests and who meets specific criteria set by the course instructor. You will schedule tests with your proctor.
- To be a successful online learner, set aside 12-15 hours of study time each week per course.
- Online learning is best suited for students who are self-motivated and self-directed learners. This type of learning is not for everyone. If you are taking an online course for the first time, we suggest you try ONE course to determine if this mode of learning is right for you.
